“Postdrome”, is the 4th and last record of my series “The Migraine in 4 Parts,” a series that depicts the stages of a migraine headache through different genres, arrangements, and overall sound of the records. In Postdrome, there is a feeling of finality throughout and the record is lighter and more approachable than the other 3 in the series. The main theme in Postdrome is the cyclic nature of neurological diseases like the migraine as well as mental illnesses like bipolar disorder. This theme is explored throughout the lyrics, structure of the songs, and arrangement (loops that play throughout and return). The last song of the album is connected to the first song of the first album in the series. Meaning, the cycle will repeat again once this phase is over, there’s no stopping it. However, there is some hope that with each iteration of the cycle something might be learned and growth beyond the phases might occur. I’ve learned so much while making these albums, so much about myself and how to write and how to be patient. The album art of Postdrome is me laying in the position of the hanged man tarot card, symbolizing surrender to the cycle, limits, process, and control in order to achieve some higher form of understanding about oneself and the cyclic nature of the universe.
