Prodrome is the first phase of "The Migraine in 4 Parts"

Bio
‘Prodrome’ is the first record of my series, ‘The Migraine in 4 Parts,’ self released July 26, 2019. It was written and recorded August 2018-April 2019. This was a huge undertaking for me, seeing as there were 3 more albums ahead and I had chosen to use a wide array of instruments including marimba, harp, modular synth, musical saw, strings, and a choir. For this task I was accompanied by Tyler Skoglund who helped record, mix, and produce this record. He was patient and let me explore the possibilities of the record. The Prodromal phase is the first phase of the migraine headache. The themes throughout it are dark, stemming from different experiences I’ve had in my life. After being given the diagnosis of Bipolar I Disorder, I became cynical about the choices we make and how much autonomy we have in making them. Because of this, a main theme throughout the four albums is genetic determinism. There is a history of mental illness in my family and a history of migraines. I wondered what other curses would befall me. I saw the cycles in my disorder and in the history of my family and I worried, “what do you do now?” What was there to do if everything was already laid out ahead of me? So I started this journey of ‘The Migraine in 4 Parts’ to answer that question and sort out the complicated emotions surrounding this theme.
